Text Box: The Camping and Fishing business began in the fall of 1969. The dream of Jerry and Dorothy Brown for others to enjoy the outdoors and themselves to have a great place to retire at. They traveled visiting every state in the continental United States in the 50’s and 60’s, staying at State Parks and private campgrounds taking mental notes on the things they enjoyed and disliked. Jerry and Dorothy implemented some of those ideas into the development of their campground and fee fishing lakes.

There are two man-made spring fed lakes, we will call the eastern lake the upper lake and the western lake the lower lake.

The upper lake was originally dug in 1918-1919 by Jerry’s grandfather Oscar Brown, to mine the marl out ( this was used by the local farmers on their fields). The mined area was developed in the 50’s as a personal fishing lake by Jerry and his dad Lester Brown. In the late 50’s and early 60’s the lower lake was damned in by Lester, Jerry and quite a few good friends to form the second lake.

In the summer and fall of 1969 Jerry and Dorothy developed the property into a business, Fee fishing began, winter brought snowmobile trails and in the spring the trails turned into motorcycle trails and cyclist needed a place to spend the night. The campground opened the spring of 1970 with 15 rustic campsites those sites grew into 25 sites with water and electric and then those sites grew into the present 45 campsites. Jerry and his son Dan operate the business today, with Dan and his daughter Mallory and son David eventually running the business in the distant future well into the 21’st century.
